From Ground to Cloud: Integrated Multi-Attack Detection in IoT-Driven UAV Security Frameworks

As drones are soaring higher, expounding new industries and opportunities through the concept of the Internet of Drones (IoD), in which Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are as interconnected as the IoT, IoD brings changes into airspace as what was once unthinkable becomes real: drones that are not only connected but also cooperating as they enhance the new fields. As the Internet of Drones (IoD) technology advances quickly, it opens up a cybersecurity risk landscape due to IoD systems becoming an attractive target for increasingly sophisticated cyber attackers. Considering these, the chapter focuses on Multi-attack Detection in the Internet of Drones. Multi-Attack Detection (MAD) hopes to identify, segregate, and eliminate all types of cyber attacks from being contiguous attacks or successive attacks occurring in different stages so that they can maintain their constrained operating functions safely on various layers into which components are categorized. In this chapter, types in IoD systems such as GPS spoofing attacks, DoS attacks, Collision attacks, Jamming attacks, DDoS attacks, etc, and emerging technologies for the detection of multiple attacks simultaneously in real-time have been focused. It also investigates how emerging detection frameworks and technologies play a role in countering these threats. The necessity of proactive, dynamic cybersecurity frameworks to combat coordinated and isolated threats, which will become increasingly sophisticated as IoD system landscapes evolve is also underscored here.
