We will start with a little history and basic concepts and then continue to command line interface and window-based images. Top-down and bottom-up Linux system designs, Kernel extension, component integration, and further reading complete this chapter. This chapter is the foundation for the non-bare-metal languages Python (Chap. 13), HTML/CSS/JavaScript (Chap. 14), and Java (Chap. 15) that require OS support.
