Artificial intelligence is a relatively new technology that is transforming healthcare through advanced diagnostics, personalized treatments, and efficient care of patients. However, the integration of AI into health care systems raises significant privacy and ethical concerns. In this chapter, an introduction to the very basics of AI and its applications to health care are presented, with emphasis on both the pros and cons of AI-driven solutions. We look at issues of privacy, security, and consent although limited in scope here and bias within AI algorithms applied to health. This is followed by a review of regulatory frameworks and best practice in ensuring that AI is applied ethically in healthcare. Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in health systems and applications, and questions and debates concerned with ethical issues and risks to privacy are underway. This paper has surveyed and discussed some of the ethical challenges, privacy risks, and possible solutions in safeguarding user data privacy in AI-enabled healthcare applications.
