This chapter introduces the themes and theoretical perspective of the book. It argues that creativity has become a ‘keyword’ in contemporary society. However, despite being pervasive, what is actually being referenced in becoming increasingly obscure. The chapter illustrates how the theoretical perspective within this book, drawn from the work of Welsh cultural theorist Raymond Williams, will frame the book’s critique of this contemporary keyword.
