This chapter introduces a festschrift developed in celebration of Patricia Shehan Campbell’s impact for more than six decades as an eminent teacher-educator, musician and researcher in the fields of music education and ethnomusicology. Major themes of Campbell’s oeuvre are described in this opening chapter, including cross-cultural understanding of music, diversification of curriculum to include global traditional music and popular music, and ethnomusicological studies of music among children. The structure of the book is introduced, organized into three parts: Part (1) The Changing Nature of School Music, Part (2) Educational Intersections with Ethnomusicology, and Part (3) Mentoring in Music Education. The book concludes with an Afterword by historian Marie McCarthy, followed by a list of Campbell’s publications.
