Potato popularly known as vegetable king is globally one of the utmost essential economic staple crops after rice and is cultivated in more than 100 countries. The underground part of the stem is the edible part of potato, which is known as tuber. Due to their short growing period, this crop is most fitted for catch cropping, intercropping, and relay cropping. Potato tuber is rich in starch and other carbohydrates . Potato is extensively cultivated in the Indian states including, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Potato crops suffer many biotic and abiotic constraints, which reduces production and productivity. Various biotic factors reduce the quality and quantity of the crop. High relative humidity, medium pH, temperatures ranging from 10 to 25 °C, etc. are highly conducive to the development of potato diseases. Altered cultural practices including more than 4 years of crop rotation, timely irrigation and fertilization application, an adapted delay between haulm killing and harvest, need-based application of prophylactic chemicals, and storage of potato tuber under dry and cool conditions are good ways to control potato diseases.
