Similarly, skin bacteriotherapy utilizes selected cultivated microorganisms applied to the skin to yield positive effects for the host. Prebiotics are also widely adopted, as they have the ability to stimulate the growth of health-enhancing microbes on the skin. In recent years, these approaches have shown promise in combating common skin disorders and restoring skin health associated with microbiome imbalances. Research in this area has led to successful applications of complete microbiome transplants and single-strain treatments with favorable therapeutic outcomes.
