Children in Crossfire
摘要
This chapter sheds light on the long-term impact of terrorism and conflict on children in Pakistan. Through interviews with those affected, including survivors and community members, it examines the challenges faced by children amid violence and chaos. From disrupted education in Swat Valley to targeted violence against minorities in Peshawar, Quetta, and Lahore, the narratives humanize the tragedies and highlight the mental and emotional trauma endured by the youngest victims. Additionally, a section of this chapteraddresses the plight of young Afghan refugees, who, once again, face the threat of displacement. In conclusion, despite the massive toll of terrorism in Pakistan, the lack of mental health infrastructure remains a critical oversight. This chapter concludes with recommendations, including the implementation of a comprehensive National Mental Health Policy, the establishment of child-friendly mental health facilities, capacity building for professionals, and community-based awareness initiatives. By considering these recommendations, Pakistan can take significant steps toward safeguarding the mental well-being of its youngest citizens and building a resilient society.
