This chapter uses an anthropological perspective to examine the experience of social drama in Indigenous women from an area of Mexico, who suffered family violence due to the excessive consumption of alcohol by their husbands and lived in a community with patriarchal cultural patterns limiting psychological care options. It describes the experience of change that these women underwent when they received the brief intervention based on the 5-Step Method. It also outlines how their personal experience impacted community dynamics, which went through the stages of the social drama (rupture, crisis, readjustment or transformation, and reinsertion or reintegration) involving excessive alcohol consumption.
