Legal Formulae in National and European Parliamentary Debates

This chapter deals with an analysis of neutral legal formulae in English, Italian and French national and European parliamentary debates. The corpora addressed in this chapter (i.e., both national and European parliamentary speeches) are available in and consulted from the Sketch Engine platform. The chapter explains how the corpora can be analysed in order to retrieve full or near equivalences across the three languages. It also shows usages in contexts and frequency rates. The findings report striking differences in the frequencies, meanings and usages of some formulae across the two sets of corpora. Discrepancies also emerge in comparison to the corpora dealt with in the previous chapters. Language inconsistencies particularly concern the European parliamentary corpora.
