This chapter examines how the July 22, 2011, terrorist attacks in Norway were integrated into a national narrative that emphasized unity, democratic values, and historical continuity. The attacks caused a profound fragmentation of temporality, disrupting the connection between past, present, and future. Through cultural sociology and memory studies, the chapter explores how historical references, such as World War II resistance and national-romantic ideals, were mobilized to reintegrate this broken sense of time into a cohesive narrative. Public rituals, speeches, and symbolic acts like the “Rose Marches” transformed the event from an incomprehensible shock into a meaningful historical moment. By analysing these processes, the chapter sheds light on how collective memory and cultural resources are used to reestablish continuity and identity in the aftermath of a national crises.
