Glass Cullet Valorization: Benefits and Limitations for Alternative Applications
摘要
Glass is widely recognized as an indefinitely recyclable material, which has led to its increasing importance as a secondary resource across multiple industries. With global glass production continuing to rise, there is a growing need to study and enhance the utilization of glass cullet. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review aimed at identifying and analyzing relevant research on the incorporation of glass cullet, in an open-loop recycling framework. The review highlights the significant potential of glass cullet, particularly in sectors such as construction and ceramics, where a variety of studies have demonstrated its efficacy and versatility. Through the analysis of existing literature, this study reveals the numerous benefits associated with the utilization of glass cullet, including waste valorization, resource conservation, and the enhancement of mechanical properties, all of which contribute to environmental and economic sustainability. Despite these advantages, the review also identifies challenges, such as alkali-silica reactions, reduced concrete strength, and technical complexities in ceramic production, which must be addressed to maximize the potential of glass cullet. By synthesizing and examining current research findings, this study provides valuable insights into the benefits and limitations of incorporating glass cullet into various industries, offering a basis for further research and development in sustainable materials utilization.
