Enhancing shelf life and preserving food quality can be accomplished through the revolutionary use of organic nanoparticles in food packaging. The current study focused the improvements in nano-packaging technology, with an emphasis on the creation and utilization of organic nanomaterials such as carbohydrate, protein, and lipid nanoparticles. These nanoparticles provide unique benefits such as increased antibacterial activities, oxygen scavenging, moisture control, UV protection, and controlled ingredient release, solving major food preservation concerns. Organic nanoparticles not only enhance the mechanical and barrier qualities of packaging materials, but they also help to ensure sustainability by being biodegradable and decreasing environmental effects. The use of these materials in active and intelligent packaging systems offers novel methods for monitoring and maintaining food quality, assuring safety, and prolonging shelf life. However, governmental permission, customer acceptability, scalability, expense, and full environmental impact studies all pose barriers to the deployment of these technologies. This chapter contained various methods that used organic nanomaterials to improve food packaging and preservation, highlighting both the benefits and limitations of their application.
