Distribution Redesign of the Supply Chain in the Car Industry

In the automotive industry, the manufacturer usually sells the cars to several independent dealerships, responsible for the transactions with the final consumer. The inefficiencies in the traditional supply chain (shown by long times and high costs) lead to a redesign in the chain. Considering the stages, the involved agents and the transactions, the processes should be optimized in time, stock, transport and profit. After collecting the data on the current situation, an alternative design for the distribution are defined. Integration of some parts along the chain makes possible that time and cost can be optimized simultaneously. This is justified with real data. As result, the customer waiting time can be reduced to a third of days, the transport cost can be reduced to less than a quarter and the profit for dealers and later agents can be doubled.
