Faced with the challenge of rural electrification affecting millions of people on the planet, Solar Home Systems (SHS) emerge as a viable decentralized solution. However, oversizing due to errors in demand estimation can result in significant cost increases. Therefore, efficient consumption monitoring is essential to optimize SHS sizing. This study proposes a monitoring system to understand energy use patterns in rural areas electrified by SHS. The paper highlights the transformative role of ICT in remote management and control of electricity systems and chooses a combination of LoRa with mobile networks for communication in areas with variable connectivity, indicating a move towards smart, resilient, and efficient energy infrastructures in developing rural environments.

摘要
