This article introduces a novel conceptual framework, Transport Requirement Planning (TRP), designed to better integrate transport decisions with production and material planning systems into complex supply chains characterised by numerous nodes and extensive interactions among them. The framework advocates for a unified transport planning approach that integrates the transportation, production and inventory decisions of supply chain nodes. The TRP system is engineered to support supply chain managers by consolidating transport resources to enhance efficiency by: different transport methods, such as less than truck load (LTL), full truckload (FTL) and milk-run (MR) strategies; managing returnable packaging container flows; giving detailed 3D loading plans; making production and inventory decisions.

摘要
