The International System of Units (SI)
摘要
This chapter presents a retrospective of the measuring units, through the main anthropomorphic measures, the first materialized measures (such as the Egyptian royal cubit and the French toise), a brief history of the French Revolution, and culminating in the creation of the decimal metric system. This system enabled the International System of Units (SI) development and implementation. About SI, besides presenting the current definitions of the base units, which have been in force since May 20, 2019, we discussed several concepts, such as “quantity,” “measurement unit,” “derived unit,” “dimensional analysis of the quantities,” “decimal multiples and submultiples,” “units and symbols writing rules,” “non-Si units accept for use with the SI” and ending the chapter with fixing exercises.
