In this chapter, I share my interview with Kira, a young Dominican married student at Bronx Community College. She describes what her life was like when she lived in the Dominican Republic and how it changed when she immigrated to the United States. Similarly to the other participants’ stories, Kira encountered many challenges in adapting to a new culture. She discusses her father’s passing and the emotional hardship she endured when her husband had a stroke that almost killed him. Kia persevered, learned English, and overcame overwhelming odds. Readers will be motivated and inspired by Kira’s resiliency.
