In this chapter, I share my interview with Benedicta and her immigration experience. Benedicta arrived in the United States as a married woman with children. It was a traumatic experience to give up her professional status that she had fought so hard to obtain as an accountant in the Dominican Republic to come to the United States and not be able to get a job in her field. Like the other co-participants, she did not speak a word of English when she arrived but enrolled at Bronx Community College as an English language learner and achieved academic success. She graduated and continued to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Her story is remarkable and a testament to her resilient spirit.
