What are the acculturative stresses that Dominican migrants experience when they come to live in the United States? How do they adapt to the host society? In this chapter, I share acculturative stresses that I experienced when I arrived from the Dominican Republic. Learning the English language became a significant challenge for me. Other acculturative stresses included dealing separation from family and friends in the native country, confronting educational challenges in the United States, experiencing racism in the United States and in the Dominican Republic, encountering health challenges and confronting poverty and high crime in their neighborhood.

What are the acculturative stresses that Dominican migrants experience when they come to live in the United States? How do they adapt to the host society?
