Understanding the Problem of Overexertion Accidents on Food Retail Sector: Preliminary Results
摘要
Grocery stores experience the highest rates of overexertion accidents and musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) due to repetitive tasks and heavy lifting. A better understanding of these accidents can contribute to the implementation of appropriate risk control measures. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of overexertion accidents in the food retail sector, presenting the first results of the MSD@RETAIL project. Overexertion accidents that occurred between 2019 and 2022 in a supermarket chain were identified and meticulously examined. A total of 952 accidents were identified, which represents 30% of all accidents that occurred in the company. In this study, criteria for classifying or refuse these accidents were identified. This information will provide important insights to improve the reporting of these accidents and to develop future solutions to better distinguish overexertion accidents from potential MSD.
