This has been a journey through the complexity of insurance and insurance regulation. We started with a very broad concept of the principle of proportionality and eventually delved into a very detailed and specific idea of (re-)insurance captives. In this book, I set out to examine the principle of proportionality in EU insurance regulation with a special focus on (re-)insurance captives as they best depict the essence of proportionality and reveal its deficiencies. Now it is time to review the main lessons learned throughout the study and discern whether the quest was successfully completed.
