Conservative Therapy of Lymphoedema
摘要
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition and requires adapted complex physical decongestive therapy, self-management/self-treatment, and a healthy lifestyle. The therapeutic goals change depending on age and the presence of comorbidities—in children, securing school and professional education, as well as the earning capacity; in adults, preventing eveyday life and earning capacity, thereby improving quality of life; and in geriatric patients, preventing dependency. Conservative therapy measures include manual lymphatic drainage, supplemented with fibrosis-loosening grips, compression therapy with lymphological compression bandages, and medical, custom-made compression stockings and sports therapy. The intensity of the therapy measures should depend on the stage of the lymphoedema. Conservative therapy should be initiated with hygienic measures and skin care.
