The railway industry is the most important industry in the country. The railway in Russia binds this huge country with steel ties, helping to unite regions and speed up the transportation of the most important components of the economic life of society. In turn, the railway industry in Kazakhstan is promising. It helps develop remote areas and strong, friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Russia. In 2023, Russia’s railway industry was expected to experience significant and rapid development. Government investment programs aim to modernize railway pavement, develop advanced technologies that improve the quality of services provided, and improve equipment. Projects like the “Modernization of the BAM,” “Development of the Regional Transport System,” and “Increasing Freight Turnover in Railway Traffic Between Countries and Regions” are also underway. These projects aim to reduce the pressure of sanctions policy, develop the region, and create additional jobs, which makes it possible to isolate the railway industry and elevate it to the maximum among other transport industries. Despite the promising development prospects, the railway industry is facing several challenges. These include the wear and tear of certain sections of the railway track and the obsolescence of some types of locomotives and rolling stock, which are slated for replacement in the future. Additionally, concerns have been raised about personnel policies. Although many additional educational institutions were opened in 2020–2023 for employees of JSC “Russian Railways” and graduates of railway technical schools, these efforts may be insufficient to fully address the industry’s workforce needs.
