Understanding the West African Media Landscape in Times of Conflicts
摘要
The West African media landscape showcases the origins of the media across some countries in the Anglophone area, and a brief description of the francophone area. It indicates the ideological stance of the media tracking its’ transitions based on ownership structure—those who established the media platforms, the type of media platforms used to disseminate information, and the purpose of the media types and platforms established. From the church to colonialists, to being established by businessmen and political activists who realised the usefulness of the media in pushing the ideologies of its owners and any other group which had access, the media has evolved from the printed form to radio, television, and today new media platforms. The chapter surmises that a lot of the challenges that gave rise to the media are still rampant today across countries on the West African continent.
