This chapter explores how biographical and autobiographical elements are expressed in two different Moroccan settings—in anthropological life histories and in Moroccan cinema. Focusing first on several films by Muhammad Abderrahman Tazi and Hakim Belabbes and then looking in detail at two life stories I wrote that are set in Morocco (Moroccan Dialogues (1982) and Beyond Casablanca (2004)), this chapter raises a number of issues common to both domains and discusses how these forms of constructed life histories are situated with respect to their diverse audiences and how they have developed in a changing world situation.

摘要

This chapter explores how biographical and autobiographical elements are expressed in two different Moroccan settings—in anthropological life histories and in Moroccan cinema. Focusing first on several films by Muhammad Abderrahman Tazi and Hakim Belabbes and then looking in detail at two life stories I wrote that are set in Morocco (Moroccan Dialogues (1982) and Beyond Casablanca (2004)), this chapter raises a number of issues common to both domains and discusses how these forms of constructed life histories are situated with respect to their diverse audiences and how they have developed in a changing world situation.
