Taking Stock of the Paradox (2008–2021)
摘要
This chapter takes stock of the overall state of the Moroccan film sector two decades into the twenty-first century. It begins with an overview of the film sector—institutionally, financing, film themes and genres, filmmakers, and Amazigh films. In a second section, we look at how the sector is moving forward and its orientation toward the future, exploring the several ways it is attempting to stimulate public interest, both internally and abroad, and its specific plans for the future. Finally, the chapter points to several areas of controversy, including filmmaker critiques of the CCM and filmmaking outside the CCM, freedom of expression, and the notion of “clean art.”
