This introductory chapter discusses the beginnings of the author’s research on Moroccan cinema, following earlier research in a southern Moroccan village and then research on human rights in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. I then show how the research on Moroccan cinema took shape, outline the form of this book, and present the subjects dealt with in each chapter. Finally, I reflect on some particular aspects of this book.
