Almost all living organisms synthesize secondary metabolites which allow them to survive under various conditions. To mankind, these secondary metabolites have proven to be pharmaceutically important. They possess various biological activities such as anticancer, antidiabetic, antioxidant and antimicrobial. In this review, we have discussed various details on microbes and their secondary metabolites. The mode of action of some of the antidiabetic secondary metabolites like Botryorhodine E, Aspergones, Neoechinulin, β-Caryophyllene, Carbazomycin B, (+)-Geodin and Aquastatin A and some anticancerous metabolites like sorbicillinoids, bleomycins, pluramycins, doxorubicin, romidepsin (dactinomycin) have been discussed in this chapter.

摘要
