The edited volume “Translation, Translanguaging and Machine Translation in Foreign Language Education” is an examination of the current and projected roles of translation and translanguaging in foreign language instruction. It offers chapters in the following sections: Part I: Translation Practices in the Language Classroom; Part II: Translanguaging in Foreign Language Learning; and Part III: Machine Translation in Foreign Language Learning. Contributors, from diverse educational contexts across the world, adopt a variety of approaches in their explorations of these areas. Their chapters present research, theoretical and practical perspectives on the range of topics under investigation. While varied in how they develop and disseminate knowledge in their respective areas of concern, all contributors nonetheless seek to ensure that teachers, students, administrators, materials developers, policymakers and other key stakeholders in foreign language education are aware of the many challenges and opportunities for enhancing learning and teaching that increased understanding of translation and translanguaging can offer.
