Worker safety depends not only on the existence of workplace safety regulations, but also on the informed safety decisions that workers and managers make every day. One of the most important tools for improving safety in an organisation at the operational and decision-making levels is risk assessment and management. This chapter provides background information on the concept of risk, its assessment and management in relation to occupational hazards. A new qualitative indicative matrix method of occupational risk analysis is also presented. The use of additional coefficients in the Multifactor Matrix Method in combination with conventional risk level estimators allows for more reliable results.

摘要

Worker safety depends not only on the existence of workplace safety regulations, but also on the informed safety decisions that workers and managers make every day. One of the most important tools for improving safety in an organisation at the operational and decision-making levels is risk assessment and management. This chapter provides background information on the concept of risk, its assessment and management in relation to occupational hazards. A new qualitative indicative matrix method of occupational risk analysis is also presented. The use of additional coefficients in the Multifactor Matrix Method in combination with conventional risk level estimators allows for more reliable results.
