Occupational diseases and accidents present substantial hazards to workers globally, with the mining industry being especially prone to elevated rates of accidents and fatalities. Enhancing the safety culture within the mining industry is crucial to reduce these hazards. Education is essential for cultivating a safety culture by providing training programs to improve risk analysis abilities and encourage ongoing safety enhancement. This qualitative study investigates the training needs of miners for developing risk analysis programs in the mining industry. Data from Türkiye, Poland, and Portugal were collected via focus group discussions and one-to-one interviews, employing maximum variation sampling. Analysis revealed varied perceptions of basic terms like risk and hazard among participants. Key findings underscore the importance of practical training in risk analysis methods and the need for enhanced pre-work training. Participants emphasized the significance of effective communication of safety policies and integrating new educational tools, such as digitized education, to improve learning outcomes. The study highlights the pivotal role of education in fostering safety culture within the mining sector and offers insights for the design of tailored risk analysis training programs.
