Belinda Wheeler and Philip Morrissey explore Fogarty’s transnational impact on incarcerated peoples. Through the form of an ongoing dialogue, this chapter explores the story of Fogarty’s reception through the case of R., an unnamed Aboriginal Australian incarcerated in the United States for murder who first read Fogarty while communicating with Wheeler (R. was not in a college-in-prison literacy programme). Centring Fogarty’s poetry in a significant theme of deaths in custody and incarceration, the dialogue exemplifies the power and reach and of Fogarty’s poetry.
