In this chapter, Peter Minter relocates Fogarty’s environmentalism and planetary perspective through Aboriginal and other First Nations frameworks that will orient both new and familiar readers into Fogarty’s poetry. Reading back to Kargun and earlier poems, Minter argues that while critics have been attentive to Fogarty’s defiance to the brutality of colonisation and subversion of the English language, his poetry draws upon and actualises an Aboriginal cultural philosophy in which ‘poetry’ coalesces present moment patterns of cultural substances and their relations to Country, the body, law, and language.
