Spirometry is used to help diagnose and assess lung conditions by measuring the volume of air exhaled in one forced breath. This type of testing is particularly pertinent with regards to assessing the impact of the recent COVID-19 pandemic on the lung performance of those who have been infected with the virus. In this study, the authors examined young men divided into two groups: 1.) people who have suffered from mild COVID-19 infection and 2.) those who had not been infected. Individuals who were involved in amateur sports were present within both groups. Those who had been infected with COVID-19 were at risk of changes in lung function with the results from the study indicating that with decreased physical activity, greater changes in lung function were observed after infection with COVID-19. Finally, physical activity was found to significantly influence efficiency changes in healthy human bodies after infection with COVID-19.
