Effect of Bitumen Content and Polypropylene Fiber on Performance of Bituminous Mix Properties

This research paper investigates impact of varying bitumen content and different percentages of polypropylene fibre on properties of bituminous mixes. Bituminous mixes are commonly used in road construction, and their performance is inclined by various factors such as bitumen substance and the addition of reinforcing fibres. In this particular investigation different bitumen content levels are considered to assess their impact on the overall properties of mechanical and durability of bituminous mixes. Additionally, various percentages of polypropylene fibre are incorporated into the mix to analyse their effect on cracking resistance and tensile strength. The research methodology involves laboratory testing, including Marshall Stability, flow, stripping value, ITS test (indirect tensile strength) and TSR (tensile strength ratio). The results are analysed to identify optimal bitumen content and polypropylene fibre percentages are 4.9 and 0.3% respectively for Marshall Stability and 5.4 and 0.3% respectively for tensile strength to enhanced bituminous mix performance. The following outcome from this explores the optimization of bituminous mix design, offering valuable insights for road construction and maintenance practices.
