Assessing Changes in Brain Activity Through Microstate Analysis in Serious Video Game Training

Video games have transitioned from entertainment to tools for cognitive development and scientific research. By revealing how video game training can modulate brain activity, valuable insights are gained into the mechanisms underlying cognitive enhancement through interactive digital media, which is crucial for developing effective cognitive training programs and exploring new avenues of therapeutic interventions in various neurological conditions. We investigated the impact of serious video game training on EEG microstates, analyzing a database acquired at the University of Guadalajara, which includes data from baseline, control, and training experiments. Significant changes in microstate duration, amplitude, and occurrence suggest that video game training optimizes cognitive functions. This research underscores serious video games as a cognitive intervention tool capable of measurable changes in brain dynamics.
