Cellular Automata Modeling of Diffusion-Capture Processes in an Opto-Chemical Sensor
摘要
A cellular automata (CA)-based model capable of reproducing the diffusion-capture events in an opto-chemical sensor has been introduced. To validate the model, a specific geometrical arrangement of functionalized ColorCatcher© (CC) has been designed. The porphyrin-impregnated CC has been kept in contact with a solution containing Hg(II), while the evolution of the color change has been recorded by a camera under controlled and stable illumination. The experimental and CA predictions have been compared by plotting the intensity of color change with time at three locations along the strip. The cellular automaton has provided a valuable approach for modeling signal evolution in these sensors. This method can be employed to automate sensor design, thereby improving response time and sensitivity of the devices.
