Calculi of the Parotid Gland

  • Mahmoud Sakr

摘要

Sialolithiasis is the most common disorder of major salivary glands. The majority of salivary calculi (80–95%) occur in the submandibular gland, whereas 5–20% are found in the parotid gland. This chapter discusses the composition, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and diagnosis of parotid calculi. It also explores the various methods advocated for management, including surgical treatment, external lithotripsy, and interventional sialoendoscopy (grasping technique–small wire basket retrieval system–mechanical fragmentation–extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, and intracorporeal laser fragmentation).
