Evaluation of the Submandibular Gland

This chapter discusses the proper evaluation of submandibular gland disorders. This includes clinical evaluation (history and physical examination), laboratory studies with emphasis on saliva flow and composition, imaging studies (plain radiography, conventional and digital sialography, ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT) scan, CT sialography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance imaging sialography (MR-Si), sialendoscopy, and cytology/biopsy (fine-needle aspiration cytology, core needle biopsy, liquid-based cytology, ultrasound core biopsy, and frozen section biopsy).
