Histology of the Salivary Glands

  • Mahmoud Sakr

摘要

This chapter describes, in detail, the histological (microscopic) features of salivary glands, which are derived from epithelial cells and consist of “parenchyma” or “functional unit” made up of secretory unit (acini) and associated ducts, and “stroma” made up of surrounding connective tissue that penetrates and divides the gland into lobules. It also describes the salivary glands under electron microscopy and addresses the effect of “aging” on the microscopic picture of the glands.
