Plasmodiophora belongs to the family Plasmodiophoridae, which causes plant disease in various crops. The most important Plasmodiophora, namely P. brassicae causes clubroot disease, posing a major economic threat to brassica crops. Plasmodiophora brassicae is distributed to over 80 countries worldwide, which are obligate pathogens and live in the soil. About 330 plant genera belonging to the family Brassicaceae are infected by Plamodiophora, which causes root gall and stunting in the above-ground parts of the plants. Plasmodiophora has two phases in its life cycle: spore in the soil and plasmoidium, which parasites the plants. However, it is more common in areas with mild, moist, and temperate climates. This pathogen has economic importance, which studies showed in China with a 17% loss of young oil seed rape plants and a 15% loss at maturity, resulting in a 10.2% yield loss. The most infection was, 48%, detected in Scotland. Control of Plasmodiophora is challenging. Various control measures are used to combat this pathogen. For instance, Acremonium alternatum has been used for biological control of Plasmodiophora.
