This chapter explores relations between heritage, sustainability, and urban morphology by demonstrating the importance of field-based learning in urban morphology for the recognition of in situ values. In line with a contextually sensitive approach, in situ values are recognized as valuable assets that could be found in a specific place both as cultural values that are already present and recognized and patterns that can become values through observation, documentation, and characterization. Accordingly, this study advocates for fieldwork as a framework for developing interest and professional responsibility for the in situ values of the local cultural context.

摘要

This chapter explores relations between heritage, sustainability, and urban morphology by demonstrating the importance of field-based learning in urban morphology for the recognition of in situ values. In line with a contextually sensitive approach, in situ values are recognized as valuable assets that could be found in a specific place both as cultural values that are already present and recognized and patterns that can become values through observation, documentation, and characterization. Accordingly, this study advocates for fieldwork as a framework for developing interest and professional responsibility for the in situ values of the local cultural context.
