The Chicken and the Egg
摘要
The human actions that have led to climate change and economic inequalities are tightly linked through wealth. If climate change has been caused by wealth, especially the contribution of the wealthiest on the planet, how can it be imagined that climate change will be fixed by getting even wealthier? It is difficult to frame the solution to the most complex problem of civilisation by assuming that the solution consists of repeating the same actions that led to creating the problem in the first place. This chapter analyses this chicken and egg situation within the framework of SDGs, focusing on the built environment. It proposes a sustainable understanding of architectural design encompassing the SDGs by focusing on those without much. It shows that designing to end poverty can be achieved by designing modest and humble buildings.
