Chrysanthemum stunt viroid (CSVd), the causal agent of a serious chrysanthemum disease, is a pathogen with a worldwide distribution and a wide host range, having economic importance for chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum spp.) and dahlia (Dahlia spp.) crops. In recent decades, with globalization and intensification of the cultivation and trade of ornamental plants, the control of this pathogen remains a huge challenge for producing and exporting countries. In this chapter, I address different aspects of this viroid involving its classification and taxonomy, geographic distribution, transmission, host range and symptomatology, pathogenicity, identification methods, epidemiology, economic importance, as well as management and control strategies.
