Mobility has augmented complexity in different dimensions e.g. the elements as vehicles, infrastructure, network, users or the interconnection of technology with social aspects, additionally stronger commitment to sustainability. The elements have been equipped with a large number of sensors providing a higher artificial cognitive capability. Cognitive Mobility provides a new approach for investigation on whole mobility system level. The holistic perspective, considering the interconnection of the mobility areas can provide new results and other solutions compared to when the investigation concentrates only on one area or element. In this paper areas will be highlighted for application of cognitive mobility approach. In the area of alternative powertrain systems and vehicles it provides new evaluation method for a mix of different mobility solutions. Secondly it defines development steps towards cognitive city.
