Drug development is a complex yet fascinating process. Having spent my entire career in this process, I feel honored to edit this book on challenges and pitfalls associated with developing a novel drug. This introductory chapter begins with a story and explains my motivation behind compiling this book. Further, it outlines how different chapters of this book are organized and which stories they foretell. For each chapter, I have provided the biography of the author(s) and explained how their personal journeys have left long-lasting impressions on the history of drug development. Thereafter, I have provided an overview of what each chapter includes and how each chapter highlights the importance of each step in drug development. Finally, I have provided biographies of stalwarts in each field. Their stories and accomplishments will surely serve as motivation for the readers.
