Lasiodiplodia

Lasiodiplodia is a fungal genus within the Botryosphaeriaceae. There are 85 epithets under this genus, and 77 species have molecular data. Lasiodiplodia species are widely distributed and known to cause various diseases on infected leaves, stems, fruits, and roots. Lasiodiplodia theobromae is the most reported plant pathogen. Lasiodiplodia species could be spread naturally through rain, wind, insects, and human activity. As an endophyte, Lasiodiplodia species can stay quiescent within host tissues without apparent symptom manifestations. As a pathogen, it can stay dormant on soil or decaying matter as a decomposer in chlamydospores or any fungal elements. Identification and detection of Lasiodiplodia species can be achieved using combined conventional, serological, molecular, and artificial intelligence-based approaches. When infection is severe, diseases caused by Lasiodiplodia species can cause significant yield losses and reduced fruit quality. Management can be achieved using a combination of two or more approaches, including but not limited to using less susceptible cultivars, clean and certified seeds, biological control agents (such as Trichoderma species), and timely and appropriate pesticide spraying.
