Frank Donald Drake was a famous American astrophysicist and astrobiologist [46]. Born in Chicago on May 28, 1930, he was fascinated by the idea of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations from a young age. Subsequently, he enrolled at Cornell University, receiving a BA in Engineering Physics. Drake served as an electronics officer on a naval warship. His passion was astronomy. Hence, he enrolled in a Master’s and a PhD program in astronomy at Harvard, which he earned in 1955. He began his career as a radio astronomer in 1958 at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia, and worked there until 1963. At the observatory, he initially concentrated on studying planets and pulsars. His projects included studies of Jupiter’s radiation belts, Venus’s atmosphere, and mapping the Milky Way’s center. He contributed to extending the capabilities of the Arecibo Observatory to capture radio signals.
