With the increase in complexity and the constant emergence of challenges in organizations, there is a tendency for companies to implement operational excellence models in order to improve quality and performance. Supply chains related to the health and medical waste sector play an important role in the health of society and so process improvement is urgently required. Simulation combined with the Shingo Model methodology can make it possible to carry out various scenarios and strategies, allowing organizations to create a culture of continuous improvement, identifying waste and increasing quality at all stages from collection to the final stage. The main purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of using simulation as a decision support tool for the operational excellence of hospital waste supply chains in the context of the principles of the Shingo Model. The results obtained from this study indicate that the number of publications on this subject is tending to increase due to the growing importance of good supply chain management for the competitiveness of organizations improving the responsiveness of the supply chain and minimizing costs and maximizing profit.
